Imli (YAY CURRY!)
We went to Imli at the weekend for a friends Birthday curry. Definitely the best new place I've been to in a while. I love it when I go to a restaurant and come away feeling like I've have had a great meal and a great evening and it didn't cost an arm and a leg. Imli serve "tapas style" indian cuisine. Basically that means small plates of food. This concerned me as, I like my food, however fears were unfounded as they kept coming and piling more and more food on the table in front of us. The tasting menu is excellent and varied, lots of it is veggie too. It came to around £25 a head including a few bottles of wine. I reckon that's great value for excellent food, great service and in the middle of the rip-off tourist trap west end :D

simon munnery has a blog
and it lives here. I found this when I was browsing through
Stewart Lee's website last night after listening to the
new cd of his old "pretentious art-comedy piece" Pea Green Boat. Wish I was going to Edinburgh this year - seems like ages since I went last (think it was actually only two years ago mind). If you're going I recommend Stuart Lee's "41st Best Standup Ever" show. We saw it at Latitude and it was some of the funniest stuff I've seen him doing live (even better than You won't like me when I'm Ang Lee).

Latitude was ace. Saw loads of excellent music, the comedy rocked and the standup poetry was actually very good, well I enjoyed it. It
was great to see loads of new music and even the biggest/most popular bands you could stand comfortably within 10 feet of the stage. The grounds the festival was held in were simply stunning - more photos on
flickr if you're interested.
Many highlights (full line up
here) for me but particularly Rodriguez y Gabriela, the atmosphere in the tent was superb and
everyone was really getting into it. Also Gruff (SFA) did an amazing set of solo stuff including building up songs using recording/replaying stuff live.
it's a new festival (this was the second year) and they haven't quite got stuff right. Queues for the two cashpoints on site were enormous, as was the queue for the only shop selling supplies. The water/toilet facilities were also inadequate for the 20k people there. Having said that they tried incredibly hard to make the festival as green as possible which I thought was a good thing. Cups from the beer tent were all reusable (£2 deposit required) and all food packaging/utensils etc were recycled/recyclable/biodegradable etc..
